Day 46!

Tomorrow morning we will be going to the fire station here in White Oak. We will hear a lot about fire safety and even some safe tips for trick or treating! I’m sure your child will come home ready to tell you all about their day.  And don’t forget….tomorrow is Hat Day!!

Day 40!

We have added 3 more sight words to our list so far this year. The words added are NO, YES, and, MY. We have cheers to these words, just like all the others. This will help us remember how to spell them and recognize them outside of the classroom.

We are also going on a leaf hunt today at our very own nature center. We will colllect leaves of various sizes, shapes, and colors. We will sort them in the classroom later this week.

Don’t forget, parent conferences are next Tuesday. If you have not returned your form to let me know what time is convienent for you, please hurry, times are filling up fast!

Penny Wars!!

If  your child has suddenly started  digging in couch cushions for lost change, let them!! The football team has started a penny war! There is a big reward to the class that can collect the most change. We will donate all the money collected to victims of the recent fires in our area.

Something new!

Hey parents, we have added two new words to our list of sight words for the year. The words are IS  and SEE.   We’ve also started rhyming words with the word families _at , _an, and _am. Rhyming is a key element in learning how to read. We often say in our room, “If you can read CAT, then you can read RAT”, etc…It is very important that the kids can recognize sight words and parts of words.  This strategy will  help them figure out unknown words.  If you would like a set of sight words, message me. I usually don’t send any home unless I think your child needs the extra practice.

New Words

We have added two new words to our list of sight words we are working on this year, am and the. Practice reading and writing these words or even identifying them in books at home.  In writing time today we practiced writing the sentence “I am ____________ “(our names inserted). They are doing a fantastic job with penmanship and spacing. We’ve also focused on the letters A and B and how to correctly form these letters and the sounds they make.

Great Start!

It is day 7 of our school year and we have done so much! This week we are learning to read and write the sight words, I and can.  Go over these each night, reading and writing them if you have time. Ask your child what our  “cheer’ is for remembering how to spell c-a-n.

The kids are doing a really cute gingerbread art project complete with googly eyes and glitter! They are hanging from our ceiling right now, but they’ll be sent home soon.

Check folders each night too, for notes and informtion about upcoming events. We put some circus tickets in there today!!
